TuiNa is a massage that works on the energy levels of the body and is effective in harmonizing these energies. It is used to treat or compliment the treatment of many conditions, especially specific musculo-skeletal disorders and chronic stress-related disorders of the digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems.

TuiNa massage is one of the ancient healing arts of Traditional Chinese Medicine ( TCM ).

Although TuiNa has been practiced in China for more than 4000 years, it is available today in hospitals and clinics and is now also becoming available in the West.

The name TuiNa comes from the Chinese and conveys this hands-on system. "Tui" means "push" while "Na" means "grasp". This treatment as practiced in China treats conditions that in the West would require an Osteopath, Chiropractor, Physiotherapist or Sports Therapist. It is different from the above mentioned because it not only works on Muscles and Joints but also at a deeper level, effecting the flow of vital life energy in the body - QI.

QI pronounced "chee", permeates the whole universe; it is the activating force for all life. In the body QI flows in channels, called Meridians, and supply energy to all the organs, body cells and tissues.

By manipulating and pressing points on the 14 Meridians, the flow of Qi will be restored, and a feeling of well being - emotional, intellectual, spiritual - will be achieved. Chinese medicine views all diseases as caused by imbalances and blockages in the flow of QI.

Course details:

Students will be taught Anatomy and Physiology necessary for this course. They will learn how to find the 14 meridians mentioned above, how to prepare body area for treatment and locate "Ashi" or pain points and also all the important points that run in the particular meridians needed to treat different conditions.

Students will also be taught how to use SEEDS applied in the ears using the Acupuncture points because according to the theory of Ear Acupuncture, all body parts and organs have a representative which is reflected in the ear.

During the course, students will also learn how to use MOXIBUSTION. This treats and helps prevent diseases by applying heat to points or certain locations on the body.

The Moxa leaf is bitter and acrid but produces warmth and has the ability to open the 12 regular meridians. By doing so, it regulates the flow of QI and blood, expel cold and dampness in the body, it also penetrates deeply into the muscles. Moxibustion also helps people suffering from depressions.

Another interesting subject taught during the course would be CUPPING. Cupping refers to an ancient Chinese practice in which a cup is applied to the skin and the superficial muscle layer is drawn into and held by the cup. Medicated massage oils ( with extracts from plants and herbs ) are used and this allows easy movements of the glass or plastic cups along the skin.

Generally Cupping is mainly used for treatment of pain, gastro-intestinal disorders, lung diseases and paralysis.
